Funding
One of the very first things you need to make sure you have for your new company is money. Without money, you won’t be getting very far. You may have heard that you can start a business with little to no money at all. While this is somewhat true, it tends to be businesses that have been handed down or ones that are solely based online. However, all businesses will need some form of money at one point or another. Figure out just how much you will need by writing everything down, including figures. Once you have a final number, always give yourself some wiggle room. This covers you for anything you have forgotten or any emergencies that crop up.
If you don’t have the money to hand that you need then you might need to find other ways to source this. A couple of examples include working with investors or applying for a business loan. Both options will have some form of repayment solution attached, so be sure to always make the repayments on time.
Marketing
Now, as a new business this one is vital. Without the right marketing in place, your company will basically be invisible. A new business must always market to get customers through the door, you must never rely on foot traffic alone. While there are many marketing techniques and strategies out there, they won’t all be suitable for your company. You need to do your research and find the ones that you think will be the most valuable.
If you have never marketed a company before then you might not know where to begin. You could hire an in-house marketing team to take over for you, or work with a marketing agency. There are pros and cons to both these options so be sure to think carefully about it.
Branding
Branding is far more than a logo and color scheme, this is what a lot of business owners don’t realize. Branding also comes down to the reputation you build and the trust you spark amongst your customers. If you do well and your customer base likes you then they will always turn into repeat customers. These are so valuable and once you have them through the door, you want to keep them coming back for as long as possible.
Website
Next up, your website. Every business has one and every business needs one, this is where your orders will come from throughout the day and in the evenings when your business is closed for the day. You want your business to be accessible for all, so understand the layout and how easy it will be to navigate around the page. It is far more than just sticking your products online and hoping for the best. You need to consider what your customers will want when they visit your website. A customer who is just window shopping could potentially be swayed into buying something just from a great website.

If you have never designed a website before then you might benefit from working with a web designer/developer. They will know exactly what your website needs, try to also include a chatbot and search bar to make it easier for customers.
Employees
Are you going to be hiring employees? If so, then you ideally need to get this step right from the very start. The last thing any new business needs is a high employee churn rate, this happens when a lot of employees come and go in quick succession. It can be detrimental to your business, or any business and needs to be avoided where possible.
Employees don’t want to be stuck in dead end jobs, so ensure there is a pathway in place for career progression. Offer them training and the chance of promotions to climb the ladder of your company.
Location
How about an office or shop location for your new business, have you thought this far ahead yet? If the answer is no then it might be on your to do list very soon. If you want a physical location then it is best to shop around and find the best option, rather than choosing the first one you come across. Many realtors will have some form of connection to the commercial world, so speak to them and see how they can help you.
You could also build your own location, from a shop to a warehouse. If you are wanting to run a self storage business but there are none for sale then you can always just build your own on a plot of land. Take a look at prefab self storage buildings to find out more on how this will be possible for you.
Security
You will want to protect your business with all your might, this includes both from physical attacks and cyber attacks then you need to put measures in place to prevent this. Think about what sort of security strategies you wish to put in place. You could install high quality CCTV around the perimeter of your building, and inside where there are entrances and exits. You might also want to hire a team of security guards to patrol your grounds. They can also sit and monitor who is coming into reception, check ID badges and generally just make the area feel as safe as possible.
